Overcome

Throughout a season filled with injuries, the Carlmont track team has been able to overcome them through open communication between coaches and the athletic trainer. Track Coach James Berry’s greatest hope for the program is to "improve all athletes in their events, enjoy track and field with their improvement, and give them an opportunity to continue participating in sports in the future."

This season, athletes have improved as the season progressed, gaining confidence in themselves and their ability to improve. They achieved a third-place finish in the league for boys and seventh for girls, making it to the all-league in the 110-meter run, 800-meter run, 1600-meter run, 300-meter hurdles, 4 x 100-meter relay, 4 x 400-meter relay, long jump, discus throw, shot put, triple jump, and 4 x 800-meter relay categories.

Vision

"It is easy to give up when an injury occurs, when you're sick, having a rough day, or not having a great start to the season. On the other side, it is easy to get too comfortable, stop trying to improve, or skip practice because you believe you're too good," Berry said.

Looking back, the major improvement this season was the track team's aptitude for controlling their focus on the ups and downs.

In addition to control, junior distance runner Anthony Luna felt that the biggest growth in the team was "more than 150 personal records" in the season.

"I hope to improve my times next season, but this season, a lot of us won Peninsula Athletic League (PAL) trials, and some qualified for the Central Coast Section (CCS) championships," Luna said.

Looking forward, Coach Berry wishes the best to graduating athletes, hoping that they enjoy college and keep their goals in mind. "Remember that you can always come back to talk to us because we are here to support you all!" Berry said.
